Where the numbers come from
Basketball boards cover the NBA from its first season, 1946-47. Careers that began before 1996-97 use the league's official season-by-season records, and everything since is summed from every regular-season box score. The ABA isn't included, so a player who started there is counted from his first NBA game.
Some stats weren't kept in the early years: rebounds before 1950-51, steals and blocks before 1973-74, turnovers before 1977-78. A game never asks you for a stat the league didn't record across a player's whole career, so a 1960s center won't come up in a blocks category.
Teammate Chain rosters reach back to the league's first seasons too, including the teams that folded early and players traded midseason, so a chain can pass through a franchise that no longer exists.
