Where the numbers come from
Pro football boards use NFL rosters from 1970 and weekly player stats from 1999. Career totals start in 1999 and count offense only: passing, rushing and receiving. They're summed from game-by-game stats, so a total can be a few yards away from the league's official figure.
Football rosters are big and careers are short, so chains behave differently from the other sports. A single season links dozens of players, and the hard part is finding the one teammate whose career bridges two eras.
