Terms of Service

Boxscore offers free daily sports puzzle games, plus unlimited play, part of which is reserved for an optional paid Premium plan (section 3). It’s provided as a hobby project: games, features, and data may change, be paused, or be removed at any time without notice.

You must be at least 13 years old. If you’re under the age of majority where you live, use the site only with a parent or guardian’s permission.

Accounts are optional. If you create one, give accurate information, keep your sign-in secure, and you’re responsible for activity under it. I may suspend or remove accounts that break these terms. See the Privacy Policy for how account data is handled.

Premium is an optional paid subscription that unlocks the extras listed on the Premium page. The price and billing period are shown there and again at checkout before you pay. Payment is handled by Stripe. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, at the price then in effect, until you cancel.

You can cancel any time from the Premium page (“Manage or cancel plan”). Cancelling stops future charges, and Premium stays on until the end of the period you’ve already paid for. Payments aren’t refunded for a period that has started, except where the law requires it. If I change the price, you’ll be told before it applies to your next renewal. If I end Premium or remove your account other than for breaking these terms, you’ll be refunded for the unused part of the current period.

Please don’t:

• submit fabricated or manipulated results to the leaderboard, including by calling the site’s endpoints directly or using scripts, bots, or solvers to post scores;
• scrape, bulk-download, or automatically query the site or its data, or otherwise put unreasonable load on it;
• try to disrupt, probe, or bypass the site’s security or limits;
• use a display name that is offensive, hateful, or that impersonates another person or organization.

I may remove leaderboard entries or names, reset scores, or block access if these rules are broken, at my discretion.

Your display name and results are shown publicly on the leaderboard, as explained in the Privacy Policy. Choose a display name you’re comfortable with. Leaderboard results are for fun: they aren’t verified, and I don’t guarantee their accuracy or permanence.

The site’s design, code, puzzle generation, and original text belong to me. You’re welcome to play and to share your results (for example, with the built-in share button), but please don’t copy or republish the site or its puzzles as your own.

Player, team, league, and club names and statistics are used here only to identify them in a trivia game. Player photos are freely licensed images from Wikimedia Commons (CC BY, CC BY-SA, CC0, or public domain), used under each file’s own license and credited on the photo credits page; they remain their authors’ work, and their use here doesn’t mean the photographer or the player endorses the site. No league, team, or club logos are used: teams appear as plain abbreviations. Boxscore is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any league, team, club, federation, or player.

Puzzle data is compiled from public datasets, league data services, and Wikipedia, and some of it is licensed by its sources (for example the Lahman Baseball Database and Wikipedia, both CC BY-SA), as noted in the site footer. This data is provided “as is,” without any warranty of accuracy, completeness, or timeliness, can contain errors, and may be out of date. Don’t rely on it for betting, fantasy decisions, journalism, or anything else where accuracy matters — verify independently first.

The site uses third-party services (such as sign-in, hosting, database, image hosts, and advertising) and may link to other sites. I don’t control them, don’t review their content, and am not responsible for their content, availability, or practices. If a third-party service goes down, changes its terms, or stops serving the site, related features may break or disappear without notice.

The site, and everything on it (including all puzzle data, statistics, and photos), is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. I don’t warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, secure, timely, or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that your stats, streaks, or leaderboard results will be preserved.

To the fullest extent the law allows, I’m not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, streaks, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the site, any third-party data or service it relies on, or any decision made in reliance on the site’s content. My total liability to you for any claim arising from the site is limited to fifty US dollars ($50), since the site is free and I’ve received nothing from you to base a larger amount on. Where liability can’t be excluded or limited by law, it is limited to the greatest extent that law allows. Nothing here limits rights you have under law that can’t be waived.

You agree to indemnify and hold me harmless from any claim, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these terms, your misuse of the site, or content you submit (such as a display name) that infringes someone else’s rights or breaks the law.

If you send me ideas, suggestions, or feedback about the site, I’m free to use them for any purpose, without owing you credit or compensation.

If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright or trademark, send a notice through the contact page or to hello@boxscore.games with: (1) a description of the work you claim is infringed; (2) the specific URL or location on the site where the allegedly infringing material appears; (3) your contact information; (4) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn’t authorized; and (5) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the above is accurate and that you’re the rights owner or authorized to act for them. I’ll review and respond, and may remove or disable the material while I do.

You can stop using the site at any time. I can suspend or end access at any time, including for breaking these terms, without notice or liability to you.

I may update these terms from time to time; the date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies, and the unenforceable part will be read to accomplish its intent as closely as the law allows.

These terms, and any dispute arising from them or from your use of the site, are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, please contact me first (below) and give me 30 days to try to resolve it informally — most things are easier to sort out that way. Any dispute that isn’t resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, and you agree to their exclusive jurisdiction.

I may transfer or assign these terms and the site (for example, if I sell it or bring on a partner); you may not assign your rights under these terms without my consent. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us about the site and replace any earlier agreements on the same subject.
