  • Every day has a category (home runs, hits, strikeouts pitched, saves, and so on) and a target number for it.
  • Type in real players, one at a time. Each one adds their real career total in that category to your running total.
  • Land on the target exactly to win. Go over it, even by one, and you bust. Game over.
  • No player can be used twice, and there’s no limit on how many you can add while you’re still under the target — but fewer is better. The leaderboard ranks exact landings by who used the fewest players, and even a bust still scores by how far over you landed.
  • Unlimited mode has variants: pick “Only Hall of Famers” (or All-Stars, MVP winners, and the like) and every player you add has to belong to that group. Add anyone real who doesn’t, and the run ends there, target or no target.

Every baseball player from 1871 to today is in play, batters and pitchers (pitchers need 20+ games pitched). Innings pitched count whole innings, and there’s no ERA category: it’s a rate, and a rate can’t be added up. Career totals are real (Lahman + public season stats). A stat that wasn’t officially tracked for a player’s whole career (say, saves before 1939, or double plays before 1939) isn’t offered for that player, rather than showing a partial number. Anyone with any history in a stat can be added for it: a pitcher who ever came to bat has batting totals, and a hitter who ever took the mound has pitching ones, so Babe Ruth and Shohei Ohtani (and, say, Jose Canseco's one game pitching) count both ways.
