How to play Road Trip
- Each day has five away trips between venues in one league.
- You're at the first venue: turn the compass needle toward the second. North is always up.
- Lock it in to see the real direction. Your score is the degrees you were off, added up over the five trips. Lower is better.
Questions
- How is it scored?
- Each trip adds the number of degrees between your needle and the real direction, the short way round, so the most one trip can cost is 180. A perfect day is 0. 125 or less for the five trips counts as a win.
- Which direction counts as right?
- The straight line from one venue to the other on an ordinary north-up map. (A plane's shortest route over the globe starts out a little further north on long trips, but on a map, which is how most people picture it, New York to Los Angeles points just south of west.)
- Where do the venues come from?
- Every team's current home in MLB, the NBA, the NFL and the NHL, at the coordinates on its Wikipedia article. Two teams that share a building, or sit within 500 km of each other, never make a trip together.
- When does a new puzzle come out?
- Every day at midnight Pacific time. Everyone in the world gets the same puzzle, so you can compare results with friends.
- Can I play past puzzles?
- Yes. Every past day is in the archive. Sign in with a free account to play the last 7 days, or go Premium for every past puzzle. Archive games don't count toward your streak or the daily leaderboard.
